Inspired by a good friend at uni. We were in conversation, talking about chains - the chains of society. The idea of chains sparked this image off - it was at a time in my life where everything was going wrong, and even though it wasn't done deliberately to reflect something deeper, I think it came through in this image. She's the bleakest image I've ever created - the effect I was hoping for was that she would loom out, as if coming out of the darkness, or as if the observer is approaching some forbidden place to be hit by this sight round the corner of the abyss.
